All Pets Have Secrets, Theirs Are Super. If the Justice League owned pets, well here's their origin story. And no it's not live-action and not directed by Zack Snyder. Actually, that would be kind of cool but this is from the Rock. All of these pets come together to defeat one villain and it all goes sideways. But you know, friendship helps and this film really goes into friendship and troubled past. But it comes with a sweetness of animation and this film is legit perfect for kids. Adults will have a lot of fun watching this film because Warner Bros can't get a sequel already for Justice League. Join me in the city of Metropolis and let's fight some bad guys with your pet turtle or your dog. Whatever pet you like. Plot: It tells the story of Superman's pet dog Krypto and shelter dog Ace who work with other animals to rescue the captured superheroes from Lex Luthor and his pet, Lulu. This film had charm and it delivered it. This film is obviously aimed toward kids but parents and DC fans can enjoy this film like a normal DC movie. It has the Justice League and it has the Rock voice acting as Krypto. What more could you ask for? The characters in this film are funny and adorable. Krypto is very charming in this film and his story arc is pretty good. I really liked how his character was trying to be a superhero dog but he couldn't fit in like a normal dog. With this relationship with the other dogs, the chemistry between Krypto and Ace played by Kevin Hart, was also hilarious as well. It's the dynamic duo because The Rock and Kevin Hart are always hating and being bros together. Their chemistry was natural and seeing them as pets were freaking hilarious. The other pet characters were also pretty good as well. Diego Luna as Chip was so adorable and funny. The turtle played by Natasha Lyonne was hilarious. Her character got away with a lot of swearing and adult jokes. The jokes in this film are hilarious for all ages. But the animal jokes and adult jokes were more hilarious. It's pretty funny that this film got away with a lot of jokes that could've landed a PG-13 rating because of Dwayne Johnson and that turtle. But they still got away with it. Disney would never. The other characters are pretty good as well including the Justice League. I can't believe that one day, Keanu Reeves would be playing as Batman. Now that's perfect casting! I really liked how they made fun of superhero tropes and I loved the many references from the DC universe. The pet villain was definitely cliché but funny as well. The story and plot were pretty good. The story is simple and the plot is well developed within the main pet characters. The hall of justice scene was probably my favorite scene because it was serious and it connected so well with the pets and the overall story. It was heartwarming and many families will enjoy it. The animation is also pretty great as well. While it's not Pixar-level, it is still smooth and it has that good old cartoon vibe. Plus, it respects the classic DC suits and this feels like a comic-book film ripped straight out from the comics. I really enjoyed the presentation of this film and the comedy works well, alongside the characters and voice acting. But this film tripped onto some flaws that still managed to be a good animated film but not up to Pixar standards. The film is obviously meant to aim at kids so you will hear fart jokes and other kids' jokes that will make you cringe or not find it funny. This film is directed toward kids so many general audiences will have some mixed reactions to it unless you're a parent or a DC fan. Some of the characters were pretty underwhelming including the villain. I thought the villain was too cliché even though the pet villain was pretty funny. Lex Luthor was under-used in the film and I wished we could've got more of his character. The Justice League were too easy to be beaten in the film by pets which gave me a mixed reaction. The plot could've used a little bit of work by potentially adding more personal stories about the other pets. Plus, after watching the end credit scene, this is not a spoiler since the Rock already posted it on his socials, this film was an obvious setup for Black Adam in animated form. It felt like a promotional film for his live-action Black Adam film and it definitely was. But it was still a cool end-credit scene. While this film isn't like a Pixar story-level film or a DC serious film, it was still a great animated film just to please kids and DC fans as well because DC really needs to step up with their films. By the looks of it, it looks like this film really helped get DC back on the spot with the majority of the help from The Batman. Plus, DC is great with their animation stories than Marvel which is a plus. This DC animated film was very charming and fun from beginning to end. Funny performances from the iconic duo, The Rock and Kevin Hart. A good story with great voice acting and interesting characters. The animation is smooth and it's basically a film made for kids but with the spice of DC. This will please all ages and if you are desperate for DC content, well this is the film for you. I really enjoyed this film and I can't wait for the future of this new franchise. For the next film, please bring in Mark Wahlberg. Now Playing in Theaters and on VOD. Quick Review: If Pulp Fiction was animated with a twist of animation and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, then this is the film. This film rocks with the creative animation style and characters. The presentation style is unique and the film really has heart. There are serious moments in the film which really surprised me for a kids' movie. But the serious moments are serious. The tree scene might be one of the strongest scenes that DreamWorks has done in years. There are no comedic moments and it wants to get the message of being good. That's a huge plus for me and there are moments where they add comedy but in the right moment. Plus, there are some dark moments in the film which is surprising. But it didn't take away the light-hearted charm and fun of the film. The comedy is funny and the action is very entertaining. A lot of unique action sequences and the prison break scene was the most creative action sequence in terms of animation. The voice cast is amazing as well. I like Sam Rockwell in his role but Marc Maron as the snake really took over the film. The voice cast was amazing and it made the characters more likable and relatable. The story is also pretty good and the second act is its strongest. Yes, there are your normal clichés and conventions. Plus, you got your kiddy moments in the film as well. But the film balances it well and gives the film's tone a chance to shine. Some side characters like Shark and Tarantula were underdeveloped in the team. But everyone got their moment in the final act and I really liked how they ended this film. The plot twist was an easy guess from a mile away but still, this film was a blast. The best DreamWorks film since How to Train Your Dragon 3. Boss Baby can go in the garbage. I'm totally open for a sequel to this. Now Streaming on Peacock and on VOD. Quick Review: This film was too cute that I cried after the film was over like 30 minutes ago. This film was very creative in its presentation but what really sold me was just the shell itself. The main character was too adorable and Marcel has a lot of charm. This film was very charming and heartwarming. Not even Pixar can achieve this level anymore since Toy Story 4. Marcel voiced by Jenny Slate did a fantastic job with the character. Her small voice really made this film soft yet real with many interesting quotes about life and innocence. Plus, the concept of the loneliness really hit me hard during this film. This film deals with many adult and real-life themes but into a soft kids' message that even adults will pick up. This film is very funny yet sad at the same time. It deals with death in the final act which really sold me due to the amazing directing from Dean Camp. A lot of hard emotions and I cried like two or three times. This film was very emotional within its story and characters. But the ending was very wholesome and I found myself smiling till the end. This was really a heartwarming film with great cinematography and animation. I loved the mockumentary look and the pacing was great. The human characters were great as well. While this film was short, it felt right and there was a lot of heart and soul behind this film. Also, some nice voice cameos which really made this film more fantastic. Plus, I liked how they have taken the real-life viral video into the story. This was really a joy to watch this film in a theater. I don't know how they pulled it off but it really worked. My emotions were through the roof and this film really got me when I saw the little shell on screen. That's cinema right there ladies and gentlemen. I highly recommend watching it and it's a perfect gateway into A24's library and a film I will look back when someone discusses about animation or documentary. 2 Minions, 2 Hilarious I tell you this, I wasn't hyped for this movie. But after the suit memes, the positive reviews, and surpassing Lightyear at the box office, I was on the hype train. I was there for the memes but I needed a movie just to laugh and enjoy the story. Plus, with the re-watch of the previous Despicable Me movies, my excitement was high. This film did not disappoint and I had a good time watching this. It's nice to see my three favorite minions back in action and the return of Gru. It's villain time. In the 1970s, young Gru tries to join a group of supervillains called the Vicious 6 after they oust their leader -- the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles. When the interview turns disastrous, Gru and his Minions go on the run with the Vicious 6 hot on their tails. Luckily, he finds an unlikely source for guidance -- Wild Knuckles himself -- and soon discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends. The comedy in this film is dumb and hilarious. It's your typical kids' movie but at the same time, it's for the fans who grew up with these minions back in 2010. The three main minions are cute and funny and they get to do a lot in this film. Plus, we get a new minion called Otto and he was great as well. All of them are funny and surprisingly, Kevin is more serious in this film. The dumb humor works very well because they are minions. Just simple creatures trying to run away or fight but in a hilarious way. Plus, they really care about being villains and they want to work and be everywhere with Gru. Gru in this film is pretty good as well. We get to see how he wanted to join a team of villains but instead, he wants to have his own team and lead his minions. We get to see the rise of his crew and there are a lot of Easter eggs from the first and second films. We get to see cameos in the film and the return of Dr. Nefario which was awesome to see him helping young Gru on becoming the best of himself. Gru's younger voice was not that bad. It's still Steve Carell but I got used to his younger voice in the character. This version really makes me miss the older Gru but it's nice to see the character Gru back in action with his minions. The story was not that bad. I liked how they explored the origins of Gru and more of the villains of the 80s. I liked the 80s vibe of this film and we get to see more of Gru's character development throughout this story. The villains were pretty entertaining and they get enough screen time to show their powers. The animation also improved a lot with some of the water effects and the lighting as well. There are some beautiful shots that looked very real for a second. Even though Pixar is still the king of animation, Illumination is catching up to them with an $80 million budget and beating them at the box office. Hot take but Illumination's animation is great and it feels very smooth and quirky. Plus, I like their 40-50fps over 30fps because it's so fitting for their animation style. Overall, this film was very enjoyable but there are still your typical Illumination flaws. The film is short which is good but I wanted more of the minions. The villains were very underdeveloped which was pretty disappointing. Some of the minion's humor didn't land for me or some of the humor was cringe. While I like how they finally focused on Gru, his younger self didn't have enough development with the minions and the film tries to focus away from the minions themselves sometimes. Plus, this film isn't a Pixar film. It's just a dumb fun film that it entertains you but hopefully, grabs some emotions with the human characters. But remember, it's just a minions movie. But I still enjoyed it overall. This film was needed when the world is getting destroyed by politics and war and this film came at the right time. It's funny, dumb, and enjoyable. I had lots of fun watching it on IMAX and I cannot wait for the next Despicable Me film. Now Playing Only in Theaters. Vizeit Score: "B" (Share this review with your film friends and on social media! We are back in the Toy Story universe! Sort of. Instead, we are watching the film that Andy watched back in the 1990s and all I can say is that he really loved this movie. For me, it's solid but this film will be forgotten in the Pixar catalog in the coming years. But the animation is still getting improved every film and the animation looks stunning but it falls short of the charm that made Buzz Lightyear so iconic. But it's still a film that many kids and adults who grew up on Toy Story will enjoy. Plus, the cat truly stole the spotlight in the film. But Wall-E can beat the shit out of that cat. Let's dive into the review. Legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby, and his robot companion, Sox. As this motley crew tackles their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work together as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his dutiful robot army that are never far behind. The most standout thing about this film is the animation. Every Pixar film is so carefully crafted within the technical side that sometimes, Marvel wished they had that chance. Pixar always innovates with brand new animation technology and they apply it in every Pixar film, including shorts. The animation here is beautiful and fantastic. A lot of great texture detail within Buzz's suit and the human texture looks very realistic but they still have the cartoonish face. But the background and buildings make the animation stand apart. Everything looks realistic and the fur textures on the robot cat look very good. Everything about the animation is just amazing. The cinematography looks also beautiful for an animated film and I like the dark lighting that made every scene stand out within its animation. Plus, the coloring of blue fits very well in this film and I bet it looks amazing in IMAX. I didn't get to watch the film in IMAX but I heard great things about it. Hopefully, they release the IMAX version on Disney+ very soon. Overall, the animation was fantastic. The story is also good. I didn't know the full plot details of the film before going in but I liked where the story was heading. The first half of the story was strong but the second half was weak but I liked the plot twists they had in store. It's an interesting story about finishing the missions but finding what are the consequences. Plus, the space themes really helped the story plot twists work. The main characters were great as well. Buzz Lightyear himself voiced by Chris Evans was great. While I missed the iconic voice of Tim Allen, I still enjoyed the voice acting of Chris Evans in this version of Buzz. His characters in this version were pretty great. His character arc was great and there was an emotional scene that made me kind of cry. The other cast of characters was also pretty good as well. Each character got to shine their imperfect traits to save each other and it all worked out in the end. Hot take but the cat was truly the goat of the film. The comedy was funny in some scenes and the action was pretty entertaining. The final battle was fun and the villain Zurg was good but there are some problems within his character that I will get into later. A lot of positives within the animation and story but there are problems with the side characters and the charm behind it. After watching the film, I didn't feel the same charm from this version of Buzz Lightyear. It felt like I really missed the iconic Tim Allen version and in this one, it felt like a reboot of Buzz Lightyear. Technically it is but it's within the same universe. The team must have to adapt new things in this film that are not presented already in the Toy Story universe. The only thing that isn't original is the villain and Buzz himself. The film feels flat within its execution in the middle act. There wasn't enough development or direction to go until the villain arrives. It's mostly about Buzz and Zurg. Not the side characters since it's the first time we got to see the side characters on screen. Zurg's character twist was unexpected which I like but his twist was questionable because if you have seen Toy Story 2, you can see the true twist and they didn't stick to the original twist from the sequel. I like the twist but I wish they shouldn't change it in the first place. Plus, Zurg didn't do much in the film and he only got to fight Buzz and he's "dead". Bruh moment. I didn't enjoy his character that much and the other characters were uninteresting. While I enjoyed seeing them interacting with Buzz, their character arcs were underdeveloped and they are the same in the end. Plus, the other characters were there for 10 seconds or a minute and they didn't get to do much in the film. The story itself started to fall flat within the second half but it saved itself in the final act. The biggest critique would be the charm of the character but I liked the new version of Lightyear. But Tim Allen's version will still be iconic in the animation world. Overall, this film was pretty solid and I enjoyed this adventure of Buzz Lightyear and his crew. While the second act fell flat and the side characters were underwhelming, the final battle really turned the ship around and it ended with a nice ending. I liked Chris Evan's version but Tim Allen's version will always be iconic inside my film heart. Still, this film was very good and Pixar's animation team did a fantastic job. I enjoyed this film and it looks very nice in theaters. Pixar might do another spin-off but who knows. Maybe expect a Woody Spin-off? That would be cool.
