Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. © 2022. Sony Pictures, Playstation Productions, and Atlas Entertainment. Directed by Ruben Fleischer. Review: The return of Nathan Drake played by Tom Holland?! Should've been Nathan Fillion. Anyways, he's back and now in film format. It's one of the better video game film adaptions recently but there's some aspects that are left out from the original source material and technical aspects they could've used more or remove. Let's go into the treasure trove shall we?
Drake is recruited by Sullivan in a race against corrupt billionaire Santiago Moncada (Banderas) and mercenary leader Jo Braddock (Gabrielle) to locate the fabled treasure of the Magellan expedition. When I heard Tom Holland was going to play as Nathan Drake, I was quite disappointed but after watching this film, he's not that bad. He brings some charisma to the character and it feels like young Nathan Drake or his origins of Nathan Drake. Tom Holland did a good job in the role alongside Mark Wahlberg. The directing on this film was pretty solid with Ruben Fleischer handling the film and bringing out the Uncharted world to live. The action sequences were pretty fun, especially the final battle. That sequences was pretty fun. The puzzles that were inspired by the game was well thought out and it made it unique by going to different locations with different obstacles and it felt like a never ending loop. It's also nice to see some of the characters from the game like Chloe played by Sophia Taylor Ali and a younger version of Sam was also introduced in the film. The Easter eggs in the film were very funny and clever and I swear, I saw Zendaya during the bar scene where Nathan Drake was working at. Maybe I'm wrong but who knows? Also, the original voice actor for Nathan Drake played by Nolan North was in the film which was surprising and cool. Not bad. Unfortunately, the film falls flat with it's story and villains. Every video game film adaption fails in some sort of level and this one did in some levels. The story feels straight out from the video games even though it's a origin story, the execution wasn't that good. It's pretty fast paced but there's no time to breath with the characters and get a sense of who they are. While I like the direction is going for, we need to relate to these characters in the storytelling. Mark Wahlberg felt out of place in the film and while I see some of his sully appearance and traits, it doesn't feel like Sully. He just Mark Wahlberg playing himself. Not in a weird wait....wait HOLD UP! The villains in the film were BAD. I wanted Antonio Banderas to be the villain but they kill him really quick and the new villain has no background story, motivations, or any sort of opposite of Nathan Drake. She just wants money and that's all. Like burh. They also under utilized Chole's character, especially in the end. The cinematography felt lacking except in the auction scene. Something about it felt not so cinematic, rather than it felt like it was filmed for a TV movie for Netflix or it's a "movie" look situation. Nothing creative except the final battle with the two ships flying in the fucking air. Some of the action sequences were quite disappointing and when I left the theater, I was like "yeah, it's a fun movie but it's pretty forgettable". Kinda sucks that this one lands in the curse of video game-film adaptions. While this film lacked and fall flat in certain components, there was effort putting into this film with the direction and Tom Holland's role into the film. There were some good moments but the storytelling itself falls flat with its basic premise and poor execution. Now they have their world and characters set up, let's make something brand new and fresh that will elevate the uncharted franchise. Now Playing in Theaters. Vizeit Score: C+ Copyright © 2022. Review: Is Hollywood truly running out of ideas for major production films? They are and this film proves that this is the wrong way to do a legacy sequel. Hell, even Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker did it much better. Let's pick pieces on why this film didn't do it's job. After the events of the original film, the story focuses on the serial killer Leatherface targeting a group of teens and coming into conflict with a vengeful survivor of his previous murders. But there's no escape for these teenagers when Leatherface comes back from the shadows. The most impressive thing about this film was it's cinematography. It's well lit, there are some impressive shots and there are a lot of decent wide shots. The colors are well fit for the film. The bus scene was brutal and the best scene in the entire film. Bloody, gory and just insane. Elsie Fisher was the only actress who actually cared about her role and she got some moments in the film against Leatherface. Other then that, that's pretty much it for the positives. I wish i could say something positive about the other cast members but unfortunately, it's pretty bad. First of all, the acting is dog water. There's no passion behind these characters and on the way they react to these murders was hilarious. The characters themselves are boring and not interesting at all. We don't even get to have enough screen time with the main character played by Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) and there's any backstory to her character with only the exception of a school shooting flashback. The rest of the characters are boring and plain bad. The bus people are fucking boring and stupid. Yes, stupid. The girl who was on the bus leading the group of people was fucking dog shit. Her acting was so unrealistic that at this point, it was a comedy sketch or a rehearsal for a brand new play in Chicago. Besides the horrible acting and characters, the story was unbelievable bad. It's so unoriginal if you watched Halloween (2018). They try to rip off every character and legacy character just for a quick buck. Also, why would these teens go to a place where Leatherface lives?! That's fucking stupid. The major difference with the story in this one and Halloween was that Michael Myers was put in prison and the town felt safe overtime. No fear until they heard death reports and that's where true consequences happen. In this film, Leatherface is just chilling in a town that has barley any people there, a downtown abandoned, and a sketchy history that according to the kids "It's safe". Fuck off film. Please don't get started with the legacy character that is straight up a rip off of Laurie Strode that isn't played by the original actress and she doesn't feel like the character or act like her from the original film. There's some many similarities that at this point, I'm watching a water down version of Halloween. Embarrassing. There are so many unrealistic kills that while it's entertaining, it doesn't feel real. How did the legacy character survived after bring brutally chain sawed through the middle of your body and ripping your guts out and killing almost every organ in your fucking body?! Man, I hate this film. The clichés are just not even funny or fun anymore. So many dumb decisions and there were so many ways to get out of this situation and in the end, no one survives expect the the character who knew this place was sketchy in the first place. The social media aspect was bad and funny at the same time. The ending of the film was expected and there wasn't any good build up. The death was expected and it shows how teenagers or college students are fucking dumb. This film disappointed me. It didn't made me bored, it just made me angry and made me loosing 20 brain cells during the film. I just wanted a sequel that has no connection to the original and follow Leatherface's journey onto why he's crazy in the first place. Instead, we got some Riverdale kids who aren't even virgins and just there to post their Instagram stories about President Biden and society. The crew behind this should deserve better, expect the writers. Now streaming on Netflix Vizeit Score: "D" Copyright © 2022. Vizeit Studios. All Rights Reserved. Quick Review: I thought YA book/film adaptation were dead but it’s still alive but in a independent film. It’s a nice film that has weird visual elements and interesting characters. The story is also interesting but the execution is off sometimes. There’s some scenes that could’ve been cut short or dialogue that could’ve been improved. The visuals are pretty great and creative. For a indie A24 film, it’s pretty great and I was very intrigued. But the script could’ve used more work but it’s still a nice film. There’s some cringe moments as expected and weird character plot lines. I haven’t read the book but I bet the original is still great. But on film, it’s a different story. It’s a heartwarming and sad story that in the end, it leaves with a positive yet unfinished note. Now Streaming only on Apple TV+ Vizeit Score: “C” Copyright © 2022. Vizeit Studios. Review: A very deep film with real life consequences yet with hopeful resolutions. "Parallel Mothers" is a one of a kind film that explores how two single mothers live in a world where relationships are broken or intervened. But the film explores more outside of motherhood and it's pretty surprising.
The film is about Janis, who has a secret relationship with an Arturo but later they found out that Janis is pregnant. They separated and Janis is born with a daughter but before the birth, she meets Ana who is having a child as well. They both have their first child and contact one another. But later, she founds out some important information that will change her life and Ana's life for the better and worse. Right out of the gate, this film has fantastic performances from the main three actors/actress. They are entertaining and their chemistry works very well. Penelope Cruz did a fantastic performance with her character including Milena Smit. With them being both parallel mothers in the film, they have an instant connection and their relationship feels real, but it goes beyond their normal friendship relationship. The rest of the cast did well as well. The story was pretty interesting and the film switches from drama to comedy constantly in a good way. It balances it very well and the pacing of the film didn't drag on. The story is pretty simple until right in the middle when Janis takes DNA tests and shit goes sideways for her and Ana. It's pretty sad half way through but the ending is wholesome. There's a lot of subjects present here that isn't talked that much in films from real life. I won't spoil it but it's pretty sad yet very important. There's obviously some other stuff that is shown now in recent media but it's isn't that important from the main subject in the film. Besides the story, the cinematography is solid. There's a very weird shutter speed but that's standard for Spain's films I think. It's a small independent film but it focuses a lot on the story and characters which is pretty great. Also, the score in the film was surprisingly very great and I see why it got nominated for an Oscar. In the end of the film, it ends with a hopeful note about history and culture in our family and it plays a huge theme in the film. The film could've tighten a little bit with the pacing. Some of the character's decisions felt weird or out of place in certain scenes. Also, we didn't get to see Ana until the middle of the film. There's little story issues and pacing issues but the film overall was pretty entertaining and it's a great film. It has fantastic performances, solid directing and a great story. May not be for everyone but watching and hearing it in Spanish was pretty fun. It's a well made film and I hope you check it out! Now Playing in select theaters. Vizeit Score: "A-" Copyright © 2022. Quick Review: This film was pretty surprising. It starts slow but it gets to the juicy part and it’s a nice thriller mixed with the saving grace of god. I loved the thrills in the film and there were actual stakes in the film. Some scenes were well directed and some were weak. There’s obviously some dumb choices so the film can move on and the pacing is off sometimes, but it’s a solid film overall. It all takes in one location and while it can get little bit boring by not moving a lot, there’s still some creative aspects to make it engaging as possible. It’s hard but it’s worth a try. It’s a simple thriller with some twists and turns. Low key surprised this came from a bad director who made boring ass films and redeemed himself yet again. He still needs to improve on some aspects but this was pretty entertaining. That’s what I want from a film, entertainment. If the film isn’t entertaining, there’s something wrong. All of that aside, the film has Impressive cinematography for a low budget film, especially coming from the daily wire. The production design of the room is well made and there’s some references to thriller films. This is also the daily wire’s first produced film, the guys behind the Ben Shapiro show. Not bad. Glad I caught to see this film for free on YT before going on their subscription service. It’s a good watch if you like thriller films. Now Streaming only on The Daily Wire.
