Very Nice. Let's see Thor's card After the events of Avengers Endgame, Thor needed time to rethink about his past. Now in this film, he wants to be lazy as fuck. But Patrick Bateman picked up his laziness and started to kidnap children like it's the cartel war. That sounds crazy but the film felt like that. But add this film with comedy and this film looked like an SNL skit but with an actual good script rather than unfunny jokes making fun of political figures. But in the end, it was a lot of fun. It goes full-on Marvel which is great but as the film progress, you can see the cracks but also see the true passion of this film. This film is already divisive but you will read my personal thoughts on this film and I will tell you this, I had a good time watching this movie. Let's dive into this colorful world of Asgard. Thor embarks on a journey unlike anything he's ever faced -- a quest for inner peace. However, his retirement gets interrupted by Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who -- to his surprise -- inexplicably wields his magical hammer. Together, they set out on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance. The heart of the Thor series is still alive after Thor: Ragnarok. Taika's style of filmmaking is very much present in this film and I still adore his directing. His comedic tone fits naturally for Chris Hemsworth's character and with his performance, it's a perfect fit for a Taika film. Taika's directing was very great in this film and we get to visit new worlds and it looks beautiful on the big screen. Taika knows how to capture the scope and scale of every scene and he does that very well. Including in his independent films and he translates that into his Marvel films. It still has the Taika flavor and at no point, it does not feel like a Marvel factory film. I want every Marvel film to be unique and different and so far, Phase four is promising that, except Black Widow. I was so happy to see Taika's vision on screen and it worked due to the cast and screenplay of the film. The cast was pretty great including Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale. Chris's performance was funny and energetic. His character of Thor really improved when Taika directed the film and this time, Taika wrote the screenplay. With that screenplay, Chris really improved on the character's story, emotions, and overall performance. He steps up his A-game in this film and he delivers it. The comedy is funny and his emotional beats really worked for me. The villain, Gorr The God Butcher played by Christian Bale, was fantastic in his role. He really ripped the role and made his character great. The opening scene was fantastic and maybe the best marvel opening scene since Avengers Endgame. It's heartbreaking and dark when Gorr is in full control and he eats up the scene. It was a well-directed scene and Gorr in other scenes is amazing. His scene with the main heroes was one of my favorites and he really delivers 80% of the film's emotions. Christian Bale was too good to be in a Marvel film and he was my favorite character and actor in the film. I cannot forget about Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor. She was pretty great in the role. It was nice seeing her back in the film and she has a lot of emotional scenes in the film. Plus, her chemistry with Thor is still strong and their romance is pretty funny. The side characters were also very good as well like Valkyrie, Korg, and the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves. While the Guardians aren't in the film that much, they were still entertaining and it's nice to see them on the big screen again. All of the characters in the film were great in the film and the story itself is a step back from the previous sequel, but it is still strong due to its screenplay. The screenplay is way stronger than Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness. There are more emotional beats in this film than in the latest Marvel entry and there are risks taken in the end. While it's the same Marvel structure, I can tell Taika tried to make the structure a little more different and there are risks that I respect. The comedy written in the film was pretty funny. Some of it didn't land but I still laughed at the funny moments and this film plays a lot of comedic and heartful moments. It does that well and with the wholesome ending, I appreciate it more. The action sequences are pretty fun and the black and white scene was fantastic. That was creative and it had the most tension in the film. The cinematography still looks pretty great with some unique visuals and shots. Plus, the score is still great and memorable. I liked the production design of the film and the costumes are also improved from the previous Thor film. Overall, the production is great. This film took risks and I liked that. Not every risk works but it's something new and Taika delivered the screenplay well. Plus, the characters were amazing and the pacing was much quicker. It's another great entry in the Thor series but there are flaws that this film has not delivered that well. Taika's humor really works when there's a comedic scene or a moment that is right for a joke. He did that in Thor Ragnarok and it worked. But in this sequel, it worked, but 50%. There's a joke every three minutes and while that's good, that is also bad because it can ruin tension and suspense. Plus, if it is a serious moment, one joke can ruin the emotional moment. The goat joke was funny like two or three times. After that, I was just cringing the entire time. Not a lot of the jokes here weren't that funny at all. Some of it was plain bad while some were cringe. There wasn't a moment where I laughed hard and my theater wasn't even laughing that hard. That to me is a bad sign. The final serious scene in the film was great but the attempts at humor killed the scene but Bale's performance saved that scene. Another flaw that I thought about after watching different reviews is that the serious moments and serious topics in this film weren't that serious at all. Cancer is a huge topic in the film and while it's serious in serious moments, it's also comedic and they play it off. But the writing was played off in a bad way and I didn't get a chuckle in the film. I felt like the only truly serious moments would be Gorr on-screen and that's all because he's the villain and he has a tragic past. The comedy really disappointed me but some of the characters were pretty lacking. Korg didn't do much in this film than the previous Thor entry and we didn't get to explore Valkyrie's rulership of Asgard that much. Plus, there is a push of "the message" on screen. While it didn't bother me, I can see that they tried it too much. The ending for me it's great but I felt like I wish there was more time to make some scenes more engaging or more serious. Glad this film strayed away from cameos and other stuff in the main film. Those are my main screenplay issues but the visual issues are a big pile of mess. While there are some beautiful shots and the black and white scene was beautiful, the CGI was a mess. A lot of unnecessary CGI with Thor's helmet, poor lighting, and not utilizing the Stagecraft pretty well. That disappointed me and the film has a budget of $250 million dollars. That's insane. But I'm not saying that the cinematography was absolute dogshit. I'm just saying that Marvel should've taken time for VFX artists to create the CGI well and not rushed. I hope the next Marvel movie won't look as bad as this one. There are a little bit of character writing flaws like Valkyrie and some story issues in the second act of the film, it's still a great Marvel movie and I like the risks they are taking. I wish Taika would learn from his mistakes in this film and try to make the serious moments, serious, while the comedic or somewhat serious moments be comedic or a little comedic to get the audience to engage. He did that with the third Thor film and Jojo Rabbit. If you didn't like his style this time in this film, try to watch his other past films. He is still a fantastic filmmaker, and I cannot wait for his next film next year about soccer. While this is not Taika's best or worst film yet, it's still a solid entry into his filmography and a great entry in the Thor series. I still had a blast with this film due to the great performances, solid screenplay, and great directing. Yes, the comedy is a mixed bag and some of the visuals look iffy, but I still enjoyed what Taika has to offer. A lot of risks and some didn't work, some did. Overall, I really liked this film and it's one of the better Phase Four entries we got. I cannot wait for the next Thor film and those post-credit scenes really got me hyped up. But no more Patrick Bateman...Oof. Now Playing Only in Theaters in IMAX, Dolby Cinema and 3D. Vizeit Score: "B+" (Share this review with your film friends and on social media! Quick Review: This bloody film was very great. It’s one of the most original gangster films I’ve seen in a while and the execution of it works. The performances are amazing in this film and Dylan O’Brien was the one who stole the show. His performance was great and his accent is pretty funny but he was very great in this film. Mark Rylance was also great in the movie and the film had a lot of suspense from start to finish. It’s pretty bloody which they don’t hold back and the set design is beautiful. It all takes place in one location and it works for this story. The story was very good. I liked the turning twists and turns. Some of it was unexpected while some I guessed very quickly. But it’s an interesting story that takes place in one location and there were a lot of things they did creatively to make the pace of the film flow well. It's a short film but the flow of the performances and the small action really got my attention fast. It’s small but it’s still a gangster film and they hit every check mark to make this film very great. The directing was very great and I’m very excited to see his next project. The ending was very clever and in the end, it’s all about the rat. The film is about the outfit crime organization but it’s all about finding out the rat really at the end, the rat was there right there all along. What an ending. This film was really entertaining. There were some scenes that could’ve been shorter and I wish they had more screen time for O’Brien’s character. But I still enjoyed this film very much. The cinematography is very great and overall, this film was a surprise and I had a good time. I missed small gangster films and this independent film really hit the jackpot. 2 Minions, 2 Hilarious I tell you this, I wasn't hyped for this movie. But after the suit memes, the positive reviews, and surpassing Lightyear at the box office, I was on the hype train. I was there for the memes but I needed a movie just to laugh and enjoy the story. Plus, with the re-watch of the previous Despicable Me movies, my excitement was high. This film did not disappoint and I had a good time watching this. It's nice to see my three favorite minions back in action and the return of Gru. It's villain time. In the 1970s, young Gru tries to join a group of supervillains called the Vicious 6 after they oust their leader -- the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles. When the interview turns disastrous, Gru and his Minions go on the run with the Vicious 6 hot on their tails. Luckily, he finds an unlikely source for guidance -- Wild Knuckles himself -- and soon discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends. The comedy in this film is dumb and hilarious. It's your typical kids' movie but at the same time, it's for the fans who grew up with these minions back in 2010. The three main minions are cute and funny and they get to do a lot in this film. Plus, we get a new minion called Otto and he was great as well. All of them are funny and surprisingly, Kevin is more serious in this film. The dumb humor works very well because they are minions. Just simple creatures trying to run away or fight but in a hilarious way. Plus, they really care about being villains and they want to work and be everywhere with Gru. Gru in this film is pretty good as well. We get to see how he wanted to join a team of villains but instead, he wants to have his own team and lead his minions. We get to see the rise of his crew and there are a lot of Easter eggs from the first and second films. We get to see cameos in the film and the return of Dr. Nefario which was awesome to see him helping young Gru on becoming the best of himself. Gru's younger voice was not that bad. It's still Steve Carell but I got used to his younger voice in the character. This version really makes me miss the older Gru but it's nice to see the character Gru back in action with his minions. The story was not that bad. I liked how they explored the origins of Gru and more of the villains of the 80s. I liked the 80s vibe of this film and we get to see more of Gru's character development throughout this story. The villains were pretty entertaining and they get enough screen time to show their powers. The animation also improved a lot with some of the water effects and the lighting as well. There are some beautiful shots that looked very real for a second. Even though Pixar is still the king of animation, Illumination is catching up to them with an $80 million budget and beating them at the box office. Hot take but Illumination's animation is great and it feels very smooth and quirky. Plus, I like their 40-50fps over 30fps because it's so fitting for their animation style. Overall, this film was very enjoyable but there are still your typical Illumination flaws. The film is short which is good but I wanted more of the minions. The villains were very underdeveloped which was pretty disappointing. Some of the minion's humor didn't land for me or some of the humor was cringe. While I like how they finally focused on Gru, his younger self didn't have enough development with the minions and the film tries to focus away from the minions themselves sometimes. Plus, this film isn't a Pixar film. It's just a dumb fun film that it entertains you but hopefully, grabs some emotions with the human characters. But remember, it's just a minions movie. But I still enjoyed it overall. This film was needed when the world is getting destroyed by politics and war and this film came at the right time. It's funny, dumb, and enjoyable. I had lots of fun watching it on IMAX and I cannot wait for the next Despicable Me film. Now Playing Only in Theaters. Vizeit Score: "B" (Share this review with your film friends and on social media! We are back again in the prequel timeline and Kenobi isn't finished. We are joining on his next adventure with Leia and Darth Vader and the series did not disappoint. I really enjoyed this series and it's a show that many Star Wars fans will enjoy but also might be slightly disappointed. It's a show which is great but there are some problems mid-way through. But I can tell you, that this show is fun and the prequel fanboys will love it. Let's dive into the review with lightsabers. Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series follows Kenobi as he sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) from the Galactic Empire, leading to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen). One of the many great things about this show was the characters. Obi-Wan Kenobi himself played by Ewan McGregor was awesome in the role. He is the star of his own show and he gets to do a lot of things that will complete his character arc from the films. We get to explore more of his past and regrets with Darth Vader and the other prequel characters. Plus, his trauma from ten years ago and his fighting his own mistakes and past. The execution worked well and with McGregor's performance, it's done in an emotional way. His character arc in this show was pretty great and seeing him fighting against Darth Vader was epic. He is still the same character from the prequel films and this show feels like a conclusion to Kenobi's arc of the prequel trilogy and moving on to the original trilogy. The writing of his character was done very well and I'm happy they kept the iconic line. "Hello There!" The other characters like Darth Vader, Reva, Leia, and Owen were all very good. Darth Vader gets to be overpowered in this show and I like that. He is ruthless and he only wants Kenobi in his hands. Hayden Christensen's performance was great and we get to see his younger self in a flashback before he turns into Darth Vader. His acting is improved and he still feels like the same old Anakin Skywalker. Plus, the voice of James Earl Jones was also awesome. I liked the new character Reva in this show. Her performance was very good and her character arc was well developed but I knew they were setting her character up for a future show or film. But nonetheless, she was great. Young Leia was also pretty good. I liked her character in this show and she was helpful thank god because some child characters aren't helpful. But in this show, she is. The other side characters like Owen, Haja, Tala, and Kawlan were all pretty good. Tala was one of my new favorite Star Wars characters and she got to shine in certain scenes. All the characters were very solid and the story overall is pretty good. The story shines through the events of the prequel trilogy but explores many new planets that are essential to the story. The story was well-paced and I liked the story bouncing between Vader and Kenobi. Overall, the story was very good. The cinematography looks very great. A lot of great visual effects and great usage of Stagecraft to blend in with the visual effects and CGI. There were some unique angles during the battle scenes and the score was pretty good. I always love the score of Star Wars and in this show, it was very solid. The production was also pretty great and the directing was very great as well. The director Deborah Chow directed all of the six episodes and that is a lot of work. Huge massive props to her for pulling this show off. Plus, the action scenes were great and in this show, the violence isn't held back which is great. The final episode is my favorite episode in the show and it felt like a true Obi-Wan dedicated episode with action, suspense, and a satisfying conclusion. This show was very great and it's a show that fans will not miss. But I still have some issues with this show. One of the biggest issues is that this show is setting up different characters for upcoming shows or films and not focusing on Kenobi himself. He's the star of the show and the show does not fully put the attention on the main character. In a few episodes, we only get to see him for like 10 to 20 minutes and they cut to different characters or at Reva. I felt like this show was only setting up the character Reva for her own show or film which is good but it takes away the attention of the main character. Plus, they cut away too much from Kenobi to other characters and it felt like it was another Hawkeye situation. Leia was good in this show but her performance was decent yet she was annoying. I don't know why but I felt like she was just a distraction and she only got to do one thing and she's done. Plus, the chase scene back at her home planet was so bland and not intense. This show felt a little bit cheap in certain scenes or shots. Some of the sets felt low-budget and not polished or beautiful like The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett. I was worried that some scenes won't be very good visually but it got back to its tracks. Another issue that is talked about which is glaring, is that this show could've been a feature film. While watching the finale, I knew that this story should've been a film and the final episode felt like a complete film or episode with Kenobi fully in it. Some episodes felt bland or dragged in certain scenes to set up stuff or fill in time. This could've been a 3 part or two-part show but I was fine with this route. I just could've wished they went for a full feature film. Plus, minor issue but please stop killing new likable characters. I won't say who but that character was my favorite. Overall, some story and writing issues but I still liked this show a lot. It's not the best Star Wars show but it's still very solid within its presentation. While this show misstep in some of the story, it's still very good due to the characters, visual presentation, and direction. This show felt like a true prequel show and it still has the charm from the prequel trilogy that many fans will be pleased with. It's still a Star Wars show and the show satisfied my expectations. I really enjoyed it and I hope they bring back McGregor one last time. Now Streaming Only On Disney+ Vizeit Score: "B+" (Share this review with your film friends and on social media! We are back in the Toy Story universe! Sort of. Instead, we are watching the film that Andy watched back in the 1990s and all I can say is that he really loved this movie. For me, it's solid but this film will be forgotten in the Pixar catalog in the coming years. But the animation is still getting improved every film and the animation looks stunning but it falls short of the charm that made Buzz Lightyear so iconic. But it's still a film that many kids and adults who grew up on Toy Story will enjoy. Plus, the cat truly stole the spotlight in the film. But Wall-E can beat the shit out of that cat. Let's dive into the review. Legendary space ranger Buzz Lightyear embarks on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits Izzy, Mo, Darby, and his robot companion, Sox. As this motley crew tackles their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work together as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his dutiful robot army that are never far behind. The most standout thing about this film is the animation. Every Pixar film is so carefully crafted within the technical side that sometimes, Marvel wished they had that chance. Pixar always innovates with brand new animation technology and they apply it in every Pixar film, including shorts. The animation here is beautiful and fantastic. A lot of great texture detail within Buzz's suit and the human texture looks very realistic but they still have the cartoonish face. But the background and buildings make the animation stand apart. Everything looks realistic and the fur textures on the robot cat look very good. Everything about the animation is just amazing. The cinematography looks also beautiful for an animated film and I like the dark lighting that made every scene stand out within its animation. Plus, the coloring of blue fits very well in this film and I bet it looks amazing in IMAX. I didn't get to watch the film in IMAX but I heard great things about it. Hopefully, they release the IMAX version on Disney+ very soon. Overall, the animation was fantastic. The story is also good. I didn't know the full plot details of the film before going in but I liked where the story was heading. The first half of the story was strong but the second half was weak but I liked the plot twists they had in store. It's an interesting story about finishing the missions but finding what are the consequences. Plus, the space themes really helped the story plot twists work. The main characters were great as well. Buzz Lightyear himself voiced by Chris Evans was great. While I missed the iconic voice of Tim Allen, I still enjoyed the voice acting of Chris Evans in this version of Buzz. His characters in this version were pretty great. His character arc was great and there was an emotional scene that made me kind of cry. The other cast of characters was also pretty good as well. Each character got to shine their imperfect traits to save each other and it all worked out in the end. Hot take but the cat was truly the goat of the film. The comedy was funny in some scenes and the action was pretty entertaining. The final battle was fun and the villain Zurg was good but there are some problems within his character that I will get into later. A lot of positives within the animation and story but there are problems with the side characters and the charm behind it. After watching the film, I didn't feel the same charm from this version of Buzz Lightyear. It felt like I really missed the iconic Tim Allen version and in this one, it felt like a reboot of Buzz Lightyear. Technically it is but it's within the same universe. The team must have to adapt new things in this film that are not presented already in the Toy Story universe. The only thing that isn't original is the villain and Buzz himself. The film feels flat within its execution in the middle act. There wasn't enough development or direction to go until the villain arrives. It's mostly about Buzz and Zurg. Not the side characters since it's the first time we got to see the side characters on screen. Zurg's character twist was unexpected which I like but his twist was questionable because if you have seen Toy Story 2, you can see the true twist and they didn't stick to the original twist from the sequel. I like the twist but I wish they shouldn't change it in the first place. Plus, Zurg didn't do much in the film and he only got to fight Buzz and he's "dead". Bruh moment. I didn't enjoy his character that much and the other characters were uninteresting. While I enjoyed seeing them interacting with Buzz, their character arcs were underdeveloped and they are the same in the end. Plus, the other characters were there for 10 seconds or a minute and they didn't get to do much in the film. The story itself started to fall flat within the second half but it saved itself in the final act. The biggest critique would be the charm of the character but I liked the new version of Lightyear. But Tim Allen's version will still be iconic in the animation world. Overall, this film was pretty solid and I enjoyed this adventure of Buzz Lightyear and his crew. While the second act fell flat and the side characters were underwhelming, the final battle really turned the ship around and it ended with a nice ending. I liked Chris Evan's version but Tim Allen's version will always be iconic inside my film heart. Still, this film was very good and Pixar's animation team did a fantastic job. I enjoyed this film and it looks very nice in theaters. Pixar might do another spin-off but who knows. Maybe expect a Woody Spin-off? That would be cool.
